Leningrad Medal Ceremony.

(Commands are in Gold)

Eyes of the soldiers follow the Officer rather than looking straight ahead.

1. Serzhent / Yefreytor

Squad leader faces Officer and holds left hand out shoulder high and horizontal to the ground.

 

2. dlah vru-CHEH-nee-yeh nuh-Grad, stuh-nah-VEES (For awards ceremony, Fall In)

    Then as per Assembly up to point 6. VOHL-nuh (At Ease). Soldiers are faced by Officer and Polutuk

    or Sgt (who stands behind and to the left of the Officer).

 

7. Z’DRAHST-voo-tyeh to-VAR-ish-shee (Good Morning Comrades)

     Z’DRAHST-voo-tyeh (Good Morning)

    Officer gives short speech commending the heroic defenders of Leningrad and stating that those who

    served are to be recognised for their bravery.

 

8. Lugenko, Yvevgeny, Erastovich:  zah uh-bah-ROHN-yah LEH-neen-grah-dah………….ka-M’YEH

    (Last, First, Middle names: Stalingrad Service medal………To          me!)

    Soldier walks forwards, salutes Officer who returns the Salute. Polutruk/Sgt puts medal in

    mug,  pours in ‘vodka’ and hands mug   to Officer who hands it to soldier. Soldier drinks, takes medal

    in teeth. Takes medal in left hand, hands mug back to the Officer.

 

9. blah-guh-duhr-YOO   zah   SLOOZ-bah (Thank you for your service)

     sloo-ZOO  sah-V’YET-sku-moo  sah-YOO-zoo (I serve the Soviet Union)

    Officer grabs soldier by shoulders, kiss on both cheeks.  Soldier shakes hands with the Polutruk/Sgt.

    Salutes and returns to the ranks.       

    za-ROH-deenu! (For the Motherland)

    Urah! (Soldiers reply once)

 

10.  SMEER-nuh (Attention)

 

11.  ruh-zoy-DYEES (Dismissed)

       Soldiers scatter as if a bomb has gone off in the middle of the squad.
